Kort beskrivelse av emnet

The course shall provide experience with and competence in practising, creating and presenting dance in relation to various spaces and stagecraft elements, contexts and audience strategies.

Students will gain insight into various approaches to artistic research and development through encounters with choreographers, educators, composers and other creative artists, and shall through process-related work develop their abilities to structure relevant movement material and be able to give artistic form to this material.

The course may include the development of new artistic works and the rehearsal of an existing repertoire. Collaborations with other students at the Academy are an integral part of the course.

The course also provides insight into the dancer’s professional role and questions of professional ethics as well as an understanding of finances, infrastructure and the various actors in the national and international field of dance.

The dancer as the initiator of his or her own activity and/or collaborations is emphasised through knowledge of project planning, application writing, network building and the like.

Læringsutbytte for emnet

Upon completing the course, students shall

  • be able to reflect on and articulate content and goals in an artistic work of dance
  • be able to describe relevant questions and problems related to the specific project
  • be able to contribute in an innovative and exploratory manner in artistic projects
  • be able to develop and structure movement material into artistic form in line with the work’s intention and distinctive nature
  • be able to realise an artistic problem through performative dance
  • be able to sustain and manage themselves as independent dance artists
  • have a reflective outlook on professional ethics in the practice of their profession
  • be able to create, practise and present the art of dance with integrity and at an independent and professional level, in various spaces and contexts

Undervisning og læringsformer

The course’s working methods may include teacher-led instruction, supervision and independent work. It may include practical exercises and showings, creative assignments, project work, lectures, independent study and written assignments. The course’s teaching, progression and aims are adapted to the group’s composition.

The course requirements are

  • mandatory attendance and active participation in the course
  • completion of course assignments throughout the course

Vurdering

All course requirements must be approved in order for a student to receive a final course assessment.

The student’s coursework will be assessed on an ongoing basis. The ongoing assessment is based on supervision, teacher assessments and the student’s own reflection on his or her professional development in relation to the learning outcomes.

In addition to the ongoing assessments the student’s artistic results will be assessed separately during performances. This assessment will be made by the given educator/choreographer and the programme coordinator.

The course is graded pass/fail.
