* In 2024, tuition fees were introduced for students coming from outside the EEA and Switzerland to study here in Norway. Free education for all is one of the pillars of a democratic society, and the title of this year's exhibition Free Education for Some* points to the debate surrounding the government’s decision, as well as the ripple effects these fees have had on the student community. The title also enters into dialogue with that of the Art Academy's MA graduation exhibition, "Free Education for All", which opens on 12 April at Kunstnernes hus, and can be read as, This is what we want, This is what we have (or vice versa).
